Breast balm is suitable for massage of the chest, throat, forehead, temples and nape. The balm contains essential oils – volatile, water insoluble products of plants, and mixtures of substances with a very strong odour. Most often they consist of terpenes and terpene derivates. Essential oils are often used for inhalation or promotion of skin blood flow. The skin massage with breast balm releases heat and the effects of essential oils in the balm can fully develop. Camphor oil (the effective ingredient of Camphor tree – Cinnamomum camra) quickly absorbs and creates a warm feeling, acts as a mild local antiseptic and is traditionally used as a stimulant for respiratory problems. Peppermint and menthol oils (active ingredients of peppermint), promote skin blood circulation and ease breathing. Both ingredients are highly aromatic with a strong refreshing effect. Eucalyptus oil (active ingredient tropical tree of the genus eucalyptus – eucalyptus) and fir oil (contained in the silver fir) are mainly used for their antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antimicrobial effects. They are recommended for respiratory system diseases, coughs and colds.
