Ginkgo biloba is a venerable tree. It has existed since more then two hundred million years. Its home is in China, Japan and Korea. Since 1727, when it was imported to Europe, it has grown in parks and can grow up the height of 25 metres. Though it is deciduous and has leaves, it is classified as a coniferous tree. Leaves of this tree have been used in the traditional Chinese medicine for a thousand years. Today it is also used more and more in the western medicine and ranks among the most demanded vegetable preparations. The picked leaf has effective agents as flavonoids, organic acids and phenolic substances. Due to the content of these agents it has beneficial effects on the blood circulation and vessels, whereby it improves the blood flow mainly in the brain and hind limbs.
