Coenzyme Q10 is an agent resembling vitamins and exists in every cell of the body. It is the only non-protein component of the system of electron transmission (energy) in cells. The speed and functioning of energy production in cells depends on the quantity of coenzyme 10. It is a very important antioxidant of cell membranes and fatty tissue. Together with vitamin E, coenzyme Q10 protects the blood lipids from oxidation, thereby not allowing them to settle on the vessel walls and to develop arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, danger of thrombosis followed by heart attack and brain ischemia. It is also indispensable for the healthy functioning of the heart. Its industrial production is based on the fermentation of sugar beet or sugar cane with the help of a special yeast strain. After oral application it slowly absorbs in the alimentary tract and its highest level in the bloodstream is reached 5 - 10 hours later. This depends on the presence of fat in food ingested, as coenzyme Q10 absorbs with fats.
